Alvaro V. Gonzalez, 82, of Highland Heights, Ky., passed away on Saturday (Aug. 18, 2012) at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Edgewood, Ky.
He was a professor emeritus with Marietta College and Northern Kentucky University. He received his master's degree in international law from the University of Wisconsin - Madison and received his doctorate in Spanish Literature from Vanderbilt University. He was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Thomas Church where he sang in the choir. He was bilingual and very proud of his Spanish Heritage passing along that heritage to his children and grandchildren.
Alvaro was born March 6, 1930, in Manila, Philippines, to the late Alvaro Gonzalez and Maria Mercedes Romero Gonzalez.
Alvaro is survived by his son, Alvaro (Alletta) Gonzalez of Dayton, Ohio; daughters, Alexandrina (Andrew John) Spaeth of Fort Thomas, Ky., and Maria Gonzalez of Detroit, Mich.; brothers, Federico Gonzalez and Jorge Gonzalez, both of Fort Thomas, Ky.; sisters, Maria Luz Bahr of Anchorage, Alaska, and Tina Moore of Fort Thomas, Ky.; six loving grandchildren, Daniel McCullough Allen, Everett Wilson Allen, Ana Alletta Gonzalez, Alvaro Javier Gonzalez, William Andrew Alvaro Spaeth, Alexander Thomas Spaeth and a large loving extended family.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday (Aug. 22, 2012) at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas, Kentucky. A Memorial Mass will be held 10 a.m. Thursday (Aug. 23, 2012) at the St. Thomas Church, Fort Thomas, Kentucky.
