Janet May Raines, 84, of Stockport, died at 7 a.m. on Wednesday (Aug. 22, 2012) at Highland Oaks Nursing Home in McConnelsville.
She was born on Aug. 6, 1928, in New Concord, to the late Howard T. and Gladys A. Hess Davis. She was a 1946 graduate of Belle Valley High School and continued her education by graduating from the Meredith Business College in Zanesville in 1948. She worked in the insurance business with Konst Insurance Company in Canton, Ohio and John Swartz Insurance Company in Zanesville. She was a member of the Mt. Olivet and Stockport United Methodist Church, East Windsor Farmerette Club since 1955, Eagles Auxiliary, an associate member of the United Mine Workers and was a longtime East Windsor Morgan County Herald correspondent.
She is survived by two sons, Bobbie Raines of Newark, and Carl (Kathy) Raines of Stockport; three daughters, Christy Raines of Stockport, Carol (Jerry) Gasho of Covington, Indiana, and Mary (Brian) Gifford of Gahanna; one brother, Harley (Alberta) Davis of Stockport; 11 grandchildren, Ryan Raines, Amy Leemaster, Ben Leemaster, Nathan Raines, Joe Catanzaro, Justin Gifford, Megan Gifford, Stacy Douglas, Andy Colvin, Doug Gasho and Marty Gasho; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother, Losia Stout Davis; husband, Clarence Roy Raines; one daughter, Linda Catanzaro; and one sister, Vera Martin.
Services will be held on Saturday (Aug. 25, 2012) at 11 a.m. at the Matheney Funeral Home in McConnelsville with burial following in the Malta Cemetery. Friends may call on the family on Friday (Aug. 24, 2012) from 5 to 8 p.m.
