The Marietta Police Department took advantage of a new law that says confiscated money used for illegal purposes can be put in a special trust fund and used by the police department. Nearly $15,000 in confiscated money currently resides in the trust fund.
An auction for Eve, Inc. will be held at the Lafayette Hotel. The silent auction starts at 6 p.m., and a live auction starts at 8 p.m. All proceeds go to the local branch of Eve.
100 years ago
A warrant for the arrest of former local attorney, Robert Moon of Parkersburg, was issued. After his move to Los Angeles, it was discovered that he was short on several accounts with local businesses.
The Modern Woodman picnic will be held Labor Day. The biggest attraction is expected to be the horse race.
