Helen Frain Boston, 91, of Greenville, formerly of Laura, Piqua and Marietta passed away on Sunday (Aug. 26, 2012) at the Brethren's Home, Greenville surrounded by her loving family. She was born Aug. 19, 1921, in Wilkes Barre, Pa.
She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Frain; mother, Helen (Pervin) Selenski; beloved husband, the Rev. Arthur Austin Boston; son, Mark Boston; daughter, Christine Andrews; brothers, Joseph, Jack, Carl and Thomas Frain.
She is survived by her son, Arthur (Butch) Boston Jr., Troy, Ohio; daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Gary Green of Indian Land S.C., Carol and Jon Mauk of Troy,Ohio, Stephen Andrews of Medina; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marie Wahler of Lewiston, N.Y.
The Boston's started their formal ministry at the Laura Congregational Christian Church, Laura, Ohio in November 1950 while Arthur was a student at United Seminary (Bonebrake) in Dayton. Moving to Laura with children Barbara, Arthur Jr., and Carol they served until September 1952 when Arthur was ordained by The United Brethren Denomination and moved to Lebanon, Pa. to serve the Bethany United Methodist Church where they served until September 1957. At that time they accepted their second call to the Laura Church, so with new family additions of Mark and Christine the family returned to Laura until August 1961. They then accepted a call to Piqua Congregational United Church of Christ, Piqua, Ohio until 1965 when they moved to the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Marietta, Ohio where they served until 1977 and changed hats to become administrators of the Washington County Home, Marietta, Ohio. During the summer of 1979 they accepted their third call from the Laura congregation and in October 1979, Arthur and Helen moved back to Laura to complete their formal ministry with an official retirement date of June 1, 1987. Helen was an Adult Sunday School Teacher; Children's Bible School Teacher; Cherub Children's Youth and Adult Choir Director; a member of the Laura Ladies Aid; Marietta Reading Club; Assistant Administrator of Washington County Home, Marietta.
Funeral services will be held at 6:30 p.m.. on Thursday (Aug. 30, 2012) at the Laura Christian Church, 1 South Main Street, Laura, with Pastors Curt Duncan and Robert Kurtz officiating. Friends may call on Thursday two hours prior to the service from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the church. Additional viewing and services will be held on Friday (Aug. 31, 2012) from 11 a.m. to noon at the First United Church of Christ, 318 Front St., Marietta, Ohio. Services will follow at noon with the Rev. Linda Steelman and Pastor Robert Kurtz officiating. Burial will follow at Oak grove Cemetery, Marietta.
