The Lady Tiger volleyball team ran into a talented Dover team Tuesday night as Marietta was swept by the Tornadoes at Sutton Gym.
"We just weren't focused tonight," Marietta head coach Ron Kidder said. "Dover is a good team. We made too many mistakes. We had a breakdown in discipline where players weren't where they should have been. It's just one of those games where we didn't come to play."
In the first game, the Lady Tigers quickly jumped out to a 5-0 advantage. Dover responded with an 18-4 run of its own to go up 18-9. Marietta then took 12 of the next 15 points to tie it up at 21-21. Dover then took four of the final five points to win the first game.

The Marietta High volleyball team takes a time-out against Dover during net home-opening action at Sutton Gym Tuesday. The Tigers were swept 22-25, 18-25 and 19-25.
"I just think we didn't play excited," Kidder said. "We were flat. Even after we got the five points right off the bat, we were just flat. For us to win, it's a team effort. We don't have what you might call a 'big stud.' All of our kids have to show up and play well for us to do well."
The next two games started out close, but Dover ended up pulling away both times and was victorious by scores of 25-18 and 25-19.
Individually, senior Kaitlyn Cozzens led the team with 17 assists, eight points, and five aces. Senior Alexis Walsh had a game-high 17 digs, and senior Kristen Hill, paved the way with eight kills.
Kidder said the team has some work to do in order for them to get where they want to be.
"We need to make some adjustments," Kidder said. "I think we need to maybe make it a little more competitive for starting spots. The JV team played well today, and there are some kids there who deserve a shot. That will kind of keep it competitive for the team. Then every time you go out, you know you have to play. I'm hoping that will help."
With the win, Dover, the reigning ECOL champions, improves to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the league, while Marietta drops to 4-3 overall and 1-1 in league play.
The Lady Tigers will be back in action against Cambridge Thursday at 5:30 p.m, again at Marietta High School.
