The Four Seasons bar on Greene Street may be closed, but there could soon be new life in the building.
The owner of the property on the corner of Greene and Second streets has been looking for a new tenant to open a business there that would be a good fit for downtown Marietta.
"I'm interviewing potential tenants, trying to find the right people to operate a business there," said Tina Thomas, who owns the two-story brick building at 133 Greene St.
She said only the first floor of the facility, currently equipped for a tavern or bar, would be leased.
"But any type of business could locate there," Thomas added. "It could be a restaurant or some other business. It just depends on who leases it. The building could be remodeled to suit a new tenant."
She said a lot of people seem to be interested, but she's still interviewing to find the right one.
The Thomas family has owned the former Four Seasons Bar property at the corner of Greene and Second streets in Marietta since the 1940s.
The building has housed several businesses over the years, including the Thomas Cafe, Thomas Carryout, Mike's Tap Room and the Thomas Drive-Thru.
The Four Seasons closed earlier this year, following the death in April of Dottie Cornette, who operated the business for about 20 years.
The property has belonged to the Thomas family since the 1940s, Thomas said.
"It has been the Thomas Cafe, Thomas Carryout, Mike's Tap Room and Thomas Drive-Thru-in fact we had the area's first drive-thru business," she said.
For the last 20 years the Four Seasons was leased and operated by Devola-area resident Dottie Cornette, who died in April of this year. The bar closed a month or so later.
Charlotte Keim, executive director of the Marietta Area Chamber of Commerce, said she hopes a good business will move into the building.
"Full buildings attract more people to our downtown area," she said. "Nobody likes to see empty buildings because it tends to deter people from coming downtown and from possibly starting businesses here."
