Violet Deloris Moore Porter, 76, of Marietta passed away on Monday (Sept. 3, 2012).
She was born in Marietta on July 9, 1936, a daughter of Sheldon Ray Moore and Jessie Ward Moore Richards. Violet was raised by her grandparents, John and Mae Moore in Marietta. She graduated Marietta High School with the Class of 1954.
She married J. Keith Porter in Denver, Colo., and went into trucking in Georgia. Both Keith and Violet were associated with Digby Truck Lines for many years where their dear friends were Jim and Cindy Digby. After Keith's death in 1999, Violet went on to work for Jim and Cindy until 2006. They are the surviving loving friends.
Both Violet and Keith were members of the Calhoun, Ga., United Methodist Church and Violet was later a member of the Grace Methodist Church and Putnam Congregational Church in Marietta.
Friends may visit at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home on Friday afternoon from 4 until 8. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 10 a.m. with Pastor Barbara Jackson officiating. Violet will later be burial in Calhoun, Ga., beside her husband Keith.
