VINCENT - Powered by three goals from senior Melissa Dickerson, the Warren girls soccer team was victorious over Marietta by a score of 4-1 Thursday night.

"(Dickerson) played very well," said Warren head coach Ekrem Eksi. "I thought we controlled the ball well and played good defense."

Senior Mackenzie Ullman scored the other goal for the Lady Warriors, which was also the first goal of the game.

Warren's Melissa Dickerson (10) maneuvers around Marietta defender Lucinda Ryder (6) during the first half of a girls' soccer match in Vincent Thursday night. Dickerson had a hat trick in a 4-1 Warren win.

Junior Raelyn Gardner fed the ball to Ullman, who kicked it in with 35:44 left in the first half to put Warren up 1-0.

Marietta responded less than five minutes later. Senior Molly Josefson, who has all of Marietta's goals this season, put the Lady Tigers on the board again with a kick that bent to the left and went just past the goalkeeper to tie things up.

From there, Dickerson would take over. Just over a minute after Josefson's goal, Dickerson answered with an unassisted goal to put the Lady Warriors back up by one with 29:28 left in the first half.

With 6:23 left in the half, Dickerson struck again to make the Warren lead 3-1, this time with an assist from junior Natalie O'Dell.

Meanwhile, Warren's sophomore goal keeper Janelle Barth was playing well in the net, and the Lady Tigers would be held scoreless for the remainder of the match. Barth had seven saves in the game.

Dickerson would tack on an insurance goal shortly after the second half began, with an assist from freshman Raeli Barnes to put Eksi's squad up 4-1.

"Even though we won, it wasn't really the best we can play," Eksi said. "But it was a good week for the girls and I'm proud of them."

For Marietta, head coach Jeff Price saw some things from his team that he liked in spite of the loss.

"The girls started out playing really well," Price said.

"They were doing what we wanted which was passing the ball around. That's an improvement over what we've been doing."

"We did get some shots," Price continued. "We made progression and that's what we were looking for."

With the victory, Warren remains undefeated with a record of 5-0. The Lady Warriors will travel to take on Parkersburg Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

The loss drops the Lady Tigers to 1-3 on the young season. They will be looking for their second win against Coshocton Tuesday at 7 p.m. Marietta will be the home team at the match, but the game will be played on Wood County Christian's home field in Williamstown.
