Cancer clinics in Dexter City, Barlow

Breast and cervical cancer screenings and education will be provided by the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine's Community Health Program from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 26 in Dexter City and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 25 in Barlow.

The clinics will be held on the program's mobile health van parked at Dexter City Park on Ohio 821 and at the Barlow United Methodist Church on Ohio 550. Free Pap tests, pelvic and breast examinations, breast health education and appointments for mammograms will be provided to uninsured and underinsured women. Appointments are required by calling 1-800-844-2654.

Parade Your Paws Walk Sept. 15

The Humane Society of the Ohio Valley will hold its third annual Ashlee Scott Memorial Parade Your Paws Walk from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 15 at Muskingum Park in Marietta. Registration will and a continental breakfast will be at 9, with a blessing of the animals at 9:50. The parade will be at 10, with prizes given out at 11 for best dressed, cutest dog, ugliest dog and pet owner look alike. At noon there will be a parade with shelter pets. All proceeds benefit the humane society. Sponsor forms are available from local veterinarians and the human society on Mt. Tom Road.

County health office offers flu shots

The Washington County Health Department will offer flu shots at the area's senior centers in September as follows:

8:30 to 10 a.m. Sept. 18, Churchtown.

11 a.m. to noon Sept. 18, Layman.

11 a.m. to noon Sept. Sept. 25, Beverly.

10 to 11 a.m. Sept. 26, Little Hocking.

Adults flu shots are $25 and Medicaid, Medicare Part B, some insurances, cash and check are accepted.

Free community meals Sept. 14

The First Unitarian Universalist Church at 232 Third St. is offering free community dinner meals the second Friday of each month beginning Sept. 14. Meal time is 5 to 7 p.m. and all are welcome in the handicapped accessible ground floor fellowship hall. The meal is being provided in conjunction with Harvest of Hope and area churches.
