Six new AmeriCorps College Guides

Washington State Community College (WSCC) starts the 2012-2013 academic school year with six new AmeriCorps College Guides, who will assist in various departments across the campus. According to Student Services Interim Advisor Elizabeth Godfrey, this is the third year WSCC has hosted AmeriCorps members in the College Guides program.

Krystle Marler (Syracuse, Ohio) is a Sociology major from Ohio University, servicing the Morgan Learning Center in Morgan County.

Ethan Kirl (Mineral Wells, W.Va.) is a Biblical Studies major from Ohio Valley University, works within the Health Sciences academic department.

Katie Blackwell (Vienna, W.Va.) also comes from Ohio Valley University as a Biblical Studies major and is working with the Upward Bound program for high school students, as well as Educational Talent Search.

Heather Yurco (Caldwell) a Liberal Arts major from Marietta College, and LaTisha Taylor (East Cleveland, Ohio) a Communication major from Marietta College, are both assisting in Student Services.

Meagen Rinard (Newport) is an Organizational Management & Public Relations major from Marietta College, working in the Center for Student Success.

The six AmeriCorps College Guides came to the college on Aug. 6, and began with a week-long orientation to their respective programs and the WSCC campus. During their second week, the Guides began Direct Service training and interaction with students, faculty, and staff.
