Senior luncheon this week at Reno center
The Marietta Township senior luncheon will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Marietta Township Recreation Center, 260 Sandhill Road, Reno. Bring a covered dish. This luncheon is open to all senior citizens.

Book club to discuss, 'The Weird Sisters'
The first meeting of the New Matamoras Library's Book Club will be at 10 a.m. Sept. 28 in the library's community room. This month's book selection, "The Weird Sisters," by Eleanor Brown, may be picked up a the library's circulation desk prior to the meeting.

Local church offers free lunch next week
First Presbyterian Church of Marietta is offering a free lunch for the community on Tuesday, Sept. 25, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.. The church is on the corner of Wooster and Fourth street, with the entrance off Wooster Street. The public is invited.
POWs/MIAs will be recognized at school
The VFW and Ladies Auxiliary to Post 6387 New Matarmoras and New Matamoras Elementary School will hold its 23rd POW/MIA Recognition Day at 1:30 p.m. Sept. 21 at the school. Former POW Herman Zerger will be present and students will honor veterans with songs, poems and essays. The event is open to the public.
St. Mary School to serve chicken dinner
St. Mary School, Fourth and Marion streets, will hold a chicken dinner with homemade noodles and all the trimmings on Sunday, Oct. 14, at the school from 1 to 6 p.m. The cost is $8 for adults, $5.50 for children 12 and under, and children under 2 are free. There will be an auction and raffle with $4,000 in prizes given away, plus games for the children.
Marietta church plans bazaar next month
An "Autumn Leaves Bazaar" will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, at Faith United Methodist Church, 503 Seventh St., Marietta.
There will be crafts, baked goods, lunch served, vegetable soup, sloppy joe, and soup beans.
School board meeting will be held Thursday
The regular board of education meeting for the Switzerland of Ohio Local district will be at 6 p.m. Sept. 20 at Woodsfield Elementary School, 473 Lewisville Road.
