Velma P. Nichols, 87, of 1020 State Route 78 West, Malta, passed away Monday morning (Sept. 17, 2012) at her home near Ringgold.
She was born June 8, 1925, near Rosseau in Morgan County Ohio, daughter of the late Mahlon and Forest Glass Parsons. She was a 1943 graduate of Homer-Union High School. She resided in Akron, Ohio, for a short time during World War II contributing to the war effort and working at the Goodyear plant. She worked with her husband farming and operating Nichols Auto Sales for many years near Ringgold. She was a dedicated mother to her children, giving special time and attention to her daughter, Kristy.
She married Paul V. Nichols on Sept. 12, 1944. She is survived by four children, daughter Kathy (Larry) McLaughlin of McConnelsville, three sons Curtis (Pat) Nichols of Marietta, Kent (Belinda) Nichols of Roseville, and Craig (Carla) Nichols of Marietta; seven grandchildren Scott McLaughlin, Melinda (Keith) Taylor, Bethany (Paul) Downard, Brad Nichols, Bryan (Andrea) Nichols, Jason (Stephanie) Nichols, Julie (Jason) Bankes, Ben Holschuh; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and a sister, Verna Grubbs of Glouster.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul V. Nichols on Sept. 14, 1999; a daughter, Kristy S. Nichols on June 6, 2008; a sister, Lila Allison; two brothers, Leonard Parsons and Malcolm Parsons; and two infant siblings.
She is also survived by several nieces, nephews cousins and her most recent caregiver, Brenda Parmiter.
Calling hours will be held 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday (Sept. 19, 2012) at Miller-Huck Funeral Home in McConnelsville where services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday (Sept. 20, 2012). She will be laid to rest next to her husband and daughter in Maplewood Cemetery near Glouster.
