The Indian Summer Festival opened up with 105 juried artists and four returning master artists. Admission is $3 for adults, $2 for seniors, $2 for students 13 to 18, $1 for children 6 to 12 and $5 for weekend passes. The festival includes demonstrations, exhibits, workshops, apprenticeships, children's activities, entertainment and concessions.

The Pattin Manufacturing Co.'s Greene Street plant is still trying to decide what to do with 50 non-management employees. Past employees are being looked at in addition to the current ones to find the skill set needed for the various positions available.

100 years ago

$20,000 is the fixed limit of finding a site for an experimental agricultural farm. Voting on the issue will take place in November.

Barney Anderson stole about $9.12 from Leroy Clark. Anderson was fined $50 and must spend 10 days in jail.
