New U.S. 33 traffic flow at Nelsonville

Vehicles traveling on West U.S. 33 from Athens to Columbus must use a new traffic pattern in Nelsonville. Existing U.S. 33 from Nelsonville to Haydenville is now closed to westbound traffic.

All westbound traffic must be turn right at the roundabout at the western end of Nelsonville onto West Interchange Road where they will turn left onto the new bypass heading west.

WCCC financial statements available

The Washington County Career Center recently completed its fiscal year ending June 30, 2012. The Unaudited General Purpose External Financial Statements are available for review between the hours of 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the Treasurer's Office.

Rummage, bake sale at Harmar Hill chapel

A rummage and bake sale will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 6 at Fairview Heights Chapel, 115 High St. on Harmar Hill in Marietta (in the basement).

Cancer testing at Dexter City, Barlow

Breast and cervical cancer screenings and education will be provided by the Ohio University Heritage Collge of Osteopathic Medicine's Community Health Program from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 26 in Dexter City and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 25 in Barlow.

The clinics will be held on the program's mobile health van parked at Dexter City Park on Ohio 821 and at the Barlow United Methodist Church on Ohio 550.. Free Pap tests, pelvic and breast examinations, breast health education and appoitnments for mammograms will be provided to uninsured and underinsured women. Appointments are required by calling 1-800-844-2654.

History, genealogy fair at Barlow library

A Local History and Genealogy Fair will be held Saturday, Oct. 6, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Community Resource Center in the basement of the Barlow Branch Library. Sponsored by the Western Washington County Historical Society, the event hopes to bring together area family histories, organization and church histories in scrapbooks, family trees, photographs, slide shows, maps, artifacts or other formats. Anyone who has an interest in the area's history is invited to participate and display their history at no charge. The event itself will not have an admission charge. A table can be reserved for participants' use by calling (740) 678-2471 or (740) 885-8822. Food and beverages will be available at the event. Everyone is invited to attend.
