MC's Harrison Hall to be dedicated Sept. 29

Marietta College will officially dedicate Harrison Hall during a special ceremony at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 29, as part of the Family Weekend activities.

The College will also be dedicating the Dr. J. Michael Harding Center for Health and Wellness, with tours of the complex offered from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Harrison Hall, which is located at the corner of Seventh and Putnam streets, is named after Charles Sumner Harrison, John Langston Harrison and Walter Clifton Harrison.

Woman's Home will hold an open house

The Woman's Home Open House, 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 7, 812 Third St., Marietta; est 1885, a certified residential care facility; invites the public for renovation tours, refreshments, and music by the Profs.

Museums to offer free admission Sept. 29

Campus Martius and the Ohio River Museums are joining dozens of others across the nation and by offering Free Admission to the Public on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012.

Campus Martius Museum features two new exhibits in their 2012 season: A Civil War Exhibit "Touched by Conflict" and the "William M. Smith Geology Collection".

The Ohio River Museum features two new exhibits as well: "The Ritts' W.P. Snyder Jr. Legacy" and the "Schoonover Shanty Boat". The Ohio River Museum's 1788 Replica Flatboat is currently undergoing restoration.

Garden Party is planned at WSCC

The OSU Extension Master Gardeners have again put together a great afternoon of presentations and breakout sessions for Garden Party XXVVIII on Saturday, October 13, 2012 at Washington State Community College, 701 Colegate Drive in Marietta.

Registration is at 12:30 p.m. and refreshments will be served. Speaker, Ann Bonner with the ODNR Division of Forestry, will present Urban Tree Selection & Care at 1 PM, followed by 4 breakout sessions of your choice. Sessions include: Indoor & Landscape Fairy Gardens; Bonsai Demonstration; Harvesting, Preservation & Mixing of Herbs; Transforming Ordinary Bouquets Into Eye Catchers; Essential Fall Chores for Success Next Year; Build Your Own Concrete Birdbath in Just Two Hours; and Gardener's Glossary & Ask a Master Gardener. $15 registration fee includes refreshments and proceedings packet for ALL breakout sessions.
