Harold R Gruse Sr., of Marietta, passed away Friday (Sept. 21, 2012) at Highland Oaks Nursing Home in McConnelsville.
Harold was born April 19, 1925, in McGraws Run, West Virginia, to the late Paul and May Gruse.
Harold served as a sergeant in the United States Marine Corp from 1942 to 1944. He was certified as an airplane and engine mechanic.
On April 25, 1948, Harold married Erma Minamyer. This past April they celebrated 64 years of marriage. During their marriage they had four children. Dr Harold R. "Dutch" (Carol) Gruse Jr. of Pueblo, Colorado, Gregg (Hope) Gruse of Clarksburg, West Virginia, Beth (Dennis) Green of Waverly, West Virginia, and Joe Gruse of Marietta.
In 1985, Harold retired from the Willow Island Power Station after 25 years of service. He held the position of coal handling supervisor.
Harold was the grandfather to Rachel M. Davis (Jeff) of Columbus, Aaron M Lane of Waverly, JoMarie (Brad) Kimball of Colorado, Michael (Janice) Lauricella of Colorado.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings; and daughter-in-law, Rheta M. Gruse.
Private services are to be held by the family at the wishes of Harold and Erma.
