The Belpre Senior Center announces that tickets are now available for the general public for a "Make Room for More" Italian dinner on Oct. 11. Tickets are $25 for guests under 60 years of age and $20 for anyone over 60. The dinner will be held at the St. Ambrose Parish House on School House Road in Porterfield, beginning at 6 p.m. A full course Italian dinner from appetizers to dessert will be provided by the center's assistant program manager, Becky Hennen. The award-winning barbershop style River City Treblemakers will provide singing entertainment plus seniors and friends will put on a "funny, puny fashion show", full of surprises, according to manager, Susie Casto. For ticket reservations, please call the center at (740) 423-6022 or drop by the Belpre Senior Center between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. In addition to dinner and entertainment, there will also be a number of raffle and door prizes.
The "Make Room for More" fundraising event is for the purpose of raising money to complete the inside of a 1500 square foot expansion now being coordinated by the City of Belpre on the center's present site at Howe's Grove Park, 1614 Washington Blvd. According to city and senior center officials, the Belpre Senior Center now serves almost double the number of seniors who were active at the center a few years ago. The additional space will allow the center to expand or add new programs and services, such as counseling to aid seniors in receiving any applicable benefits or assistance with Medicare; varied exercise programs, art or advanced craft classes, meeting space for community groups, dinner/dances, health seminars and much more. The Belpre seniors would like to especially thank the lead sponsors to date for helping make this dinner possible - Ohio HomeCare, Marietta Memorial Hospice, an Amedisys partner, and Worthington Center.
