25 years ago

- On Oct. 20, the West Virginia Department of Highways will start taking demolition bids on the Williamstown Bridge. A contractor will be selected within 30 days. The bridge is 84 years old.

- The Marietta Times is looking for people who could be considered modern pioneers. Anyone can enter. People who are selected will appear in future Times articles.

100 years ago

- The athletic council of Marietta College held a meeting electing R.M. Noll as the chairman of the council. Professor Merriam was elected as secretary.

- The musical comedy, "Madame Sherry," will be performed Oct. 10 at the Auditorium. The motif song, "Ev'ry Little Movement Has a Meaning all its Own," is expected to reveal deep and hidden significance to the play.
