River Trail ‘adoptions’ can make a difference

October 8, 2012
The Marietta Times

We are glad to hear four groups have stepped up and agree to "adopt" sections of Marietta's well-traveled 2.2-mile River Trail.

And congratulations to the Friends of the River Trail for overseeing the adoptions. The Friends group provides volunteer services to learn, repair and improve the trail.

So far, Marietta Rowing and Cycling Club, WASCO Inc/Marietta Harbor, MOV'n Dragons, and Friends of the Museums have signed up to care for the trail.

The trail is a favorite place for walkers, joggers, bike riders and anyone else just looking for a place to get outside and be active. It's centrally located in Marietta and reasonably flat.

The idea, a according to Roger Kalter, organizer of the effort, is to maintain the trail and address any problems before a situation gets desperate.

Ideally, a total of 15 community groups would be involved in the adoption process, spreading out the work over more people. Anyone interested in volunteering can call Kalter at 373-1784, or contact him at rogerkalter@yahoo.com.

We hope they succeed in getting more volunteers to continue the work of keeping Marietta's River Trail a nice place for visitors and exercisers.
