Chili cook-off to help Humane Society
The Station Lounge annual chili cook off will be held Sunday, with judging to begin at 2 p.m. Proceeds will go to the Humane Society of the Ohio Valley. Donations for the humane society will also be accepted at the event, including pet food and supplies.

Newport Pizza Den to help charity
Fox's Pizza Den in Newport will donate 25 percent of its sales Friday to the Karen Mullen Breast Cancer Foundation, a national charity based in Seattle. Fox's Pizza Den is located at 37686 State Route 7.

Hydrant repairs today in Waterford
Waterford Water will be shutting the water off at 12:30 p.m. today for hydrant repairs. The water will be off from the corner of Main and Virginia streets to the Turner's One Stop Shop. That area will be under a boil advisory until further notice.
Meat preservation class at Belle Valley
A meat preservation class will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today in the South Central Regional Office near Belle Valley. The cost is $5 per person. Participants will see a fermented sausage demonstration by a meats specialist, learn steps to safely can beef or venison at home, taste samples and get recipes. To register, call 732-5681.
Steak, chicken
dinner at Post 750
American Legion Post 750 on Main Street in Lowell will hold a strip steak or chicken dinner from 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 20. Meals will be cooked to order. The cost is $10 for steak, $7 for chicken and $5 for a no meat meal. All meals comes with a baked potato, salad and bread. Dessert will also be sold. The meal is eat-in or carry-out.
Welfare League takes requests
The Marietta Welfare League is currently accepting requests from area clubs, schools, nonprofit groups and other community organizations for its annual donation distribution.
The deadline for requests is Oct. 31.
