Residents can drop leaves off at 4 areas
Beginning immediately, the city of Marietta has designated four areas for residents to drop off bagged leaves: Indian Acres, Buckeye Park, Lookout Park and Greenleaf Landscapes compost facility on Ohio 821. Only leaves can be dropped off at these sites. City crews will begin leaf pickup the third or fourth week of October. Residents are asked to not put bagged leaves out for crews but to instead rake the leaves between the curb and sidewalk, not into the street.
Group plans annual poker run Saturday
The Marietta Valley Rider of Ohio will hold its sixth annual poker run Saturday to benefit Toys for Tots. The run starts at the "out post" on Ohio 550, with the first bike out at 11 a.m. and last bike out at 1 p.m. The last bike is in at 5 p.m. with a drawing at 5:30. All vehicles are welcome and the event will be held rain or shine. The cost is $10 for riders and $5 for passengers. There will also be door prizes, food and raffles.
Birding event will be held at visitors center
The Ohio River Islands National Wildlife Refuge will be taking part in "The Big Sit" birding event Sunday at the visitors center, 3982 Waverly Road, Williamstown. Participants can come see the different species of birds that live on and migrate through the refuge. The event is free. "The Big Sit" is an international day of birding and will start at sunrise and end at sunset. All ages are welcome and birders can come anytime throughout the day. For this special occasion, the visitors' center will be open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. It is recommended to bring a folding chair.

Elections board will hold special meeting
The Washington County Board of Elections will hold a special meeting at 1:15 p.m. Friday at the board office to review the filing of a voter's residency challenge and any other business that may come before the board.

The Washington State Community College board finance committee will meet at 3 p.m. Monday in the administration offices in the main building.
