Who is David White?
Let me introduce myself.
I am, like many of you, a father, a grandfather, a husband, a businessman and a sportsman. Like most of you, I am a resident of Washington County.
I have lived and worked in Washington County my entire life, except for a short period when the U.S. Army had other ideas. I was proud to serve my country and I was blessed to serve in peace time so I never saw a hostile shot fired. I thank God for our right to keep and bear arms to protect our property, our freedom, our lives and the lives of loved ones.
I chose to live here, raise my sons here, start my business here, and ultimately get involved in government here. This community has been very good to me and I desire to return the kindness.
So, why am I running for commissioner?
I am a candidate because I believe the people of Washington County deserve better representation than they have gotten. I believe you want a commissioner who is there to increase your freedom and your opportunity, not increase the size of his retirement check. I believe you want a commissioner who will enhance the business climate, not enhance his own business aspirations. I believe that you, the voters of Washington County, deserve a commissioner who will look you in the eye and tell you the truth rather than what he thinks you want to hear. You may agree or disagree with me but you will never doubt where I stand. I will always make my position clear, yet I will remain open-minded.
Honesty and transparency are what people desire and government needs. I will be a commissioner who isn't afraid to divulge his thoughts for fear of not being re-elected. A commissioner who has the integrity to stand for what is right and the fortitude to stand against what is wrong.
Politics is not a career for me. It does not define me. It is simply part of the public service to which I have been called. I am at a point in my life where I am able to serve. I am 53 years old. My children are grown, my business established. When I leave office, I will go right back to my studio and continue working as I have for the previous 25 years.
I can't promise, as commissioner I will always agree with you. I can promise to always listen to your opinion. My positions, except in cases of moral or legal obligation, are not set in stone. You will always have the opportunity to change my mind. For that to happen, I need to hear from you. I will have an open door policy and I urge you to make use of that open door. Let me know what you think so I can make the best decisions possible for our county.
My prior service in local government has taught me that the best ideas usually come from the private sector, the people outside of government. I want to have the best advisors possible ... you.
