Youth sought for fair board positions
All youth interested in serving on the 2013 Washington County and/or Barlow Junior Fair boards need to apply now. Applications are available at every high school office and at the Ohio State University Extension Office and can also be downloaded from washington.osu.edu/topics/4-h-youth-development/copy_of_4-h-forms. Applications must be returned to the Extension Office by Monday. Applicants must also be interviewed to serve on a Junior Fair Board. Interviews will be held Oct. 30 from 5 to 8:45 p.m. at the Ohio State University Extension Office, 202 Davis Ave., Marietta. Applicants are asked to schedule their interview by calling 376-7431.
Oil and gas forum is planned for Monday
A forum on "Ohio's Laws and the Oil and Gas Boom" will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday in the McDonough Auditorium at Marietta College. Speakers will include Ohio Rep. Debbie Phillips, Geologist Pavanne Pettigrew and Nathan Johnson, with the Buckeye Forest Council. The event is open to the public.
Chili cookoff to help Humane Society
The Station Lounge annual chili cookoff will be held Sunday, with judging to begin at 2 p.m. Proceeds will go to the Humane Society of the Ohio Valley. Donations for the humane society will also be accepted at the event, including pet food and supplies.

Duct Tape Crafts event at library
The Marietta location of the Washington County Public Library will offer Duct Tape Crafts for those ages 7 to 18 on Oct. 27. The class for ages 7 to 12 will meet from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and the class for ages 13 to 18 will meet from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Registration is required. To register, stop by the Youth Services Department or call 373-1057, Ext. 219.
Pancake breakfast benefit for festival
A pancake breakfast benefiting the Ohio River Sternwheel Festival will be held from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Oct. 20 at Applebee's of Marietta. The cost is $5 per person. Tickets can be purchased from a committee member or at the door.
