- Phicom Public Limited Co. of London bought Forma Scientific for $56 million. Mallinckrodt Inc.'s decision to sell to Phicom was based on the fact that Phicom will keep operations local, the management staff will remain intact and production jobs preserved.
- Roger and Betsy Kalter, world tour cyclists, will return to Marietta Oct. 17. The couple left in May 1982 on a round-the-world biking trek. A party is planned at 2 p.m. in East Muskingum Park.
100 years ago
- The last open-air concert of the Marietta band season was held at the City park. Various marches and waltzes were played.
- Marietta residents will have the opportunity to view a moving picture show within the week. The prominent part of the picture includes a fight and arrest.
