The Marietta Middle School Boys and Girls cross country teams concluded its season Tuesday by competing in the combined East/Southeast District Championship at The Elizabeth S. Broughton Nature Preserve.
Eleven boys' teams and twelve girls' teams competed for the top three spots in the district race.
The boys squad finished second, as district runner-up. They were led by Brandon Neville in ninth place, Zach Deskins in 18th, Hayden Carman in 29th, Turner Hill in 32nd and Max Garrison in 37th. After tallying the five scorers for each team, Marietta was tied for second. In cross country, the team with the higher placing 6th runner advances, as that runner's finish breaks the tie. John Diehl's 53rd place finish for the Tigers broke the tie and secured second place for the team.
