25 years ago

- The Washington County Public Library Used Book Sale will be next week from Tuesday to Saturday. A pre-sale will be held for Friends of the Washington County Public Library. Memberships to become a Friend will be available at the door.

- The Betsey Mills Club will host a candlelight dinner on Dec. 7. The dinner will be old Williamsburg themed. The Valley Renaissance Consort will perform after the dinner.

100 years ago

- Otto Bros., a large department store on Putnam Street opened to the public from 7 to 10 p.m. for its fall and early winter opening. The opening was accompanied by the Marietta Orchestra.

- The two men who drowned on Oct. 29 have been identified as Ward Voas and George Mercer, both of Buffalo, New York.
