Texan favors Romney as ‘lesser of two evils’

October 30, 2012
The Marietta Times

This is the first time I have ever written a letter to the editor but I feel the times we are living in demand each of us to take a stand. I am a senior citizen who lived in Marietta for most of my adult life and will always have fond memories of the great city it is.

I write today in hopes that even one person might read this letter and be impacted by the truth I share. I believe this election is by far the most important of my life. Truly our nation stands at a crossroad. Will we travel in the direction of bigger more intrusive government or move toward trying to put a halt to our run-away deficit? Will we jeopardize our children's and our grandchildren's future with spending that cannot be maintained? Will we move toward an even more godless society that places no value on the unborn or will we take action and make a stand for truth?

There have been presidents that I have not agreed with in the past, but in all my years, I have never seen what we are seeing these days. I have always felt that our leaders, whether democrat or republican, truly loved this nation that was birthed in the values of freedom. I have serious doubts that our present leader shares that sentiment.

Slowly but surely I see our precious freedom being eroded by President Obama. It grieves me that the heroes that have sacrificed all to allow us to have this freedom may have sacrificed in vain if something is not done.

From the beginning of this administration President Obama has acted in ways that clearly violate our Constitution. With executive order after executive order he has walked on the decisions made by Congress. With the support of much of the media he continues to move in ways that will ultimately destroy this nation. He makes the decision to leave "God" out of the democratic platform, then waivers at the last minute when there is uproar. He is slowly destroying the bond we have with the nation of Israel and our only ally in the Middle East. He continues to cloud the clear and verifiable facts concerning the attack on our U.S. embassy in Libya and makes a statement on one of his many television appearances that the murder of our ambassador and three others is "not optimal." A statement so insensitive and disrespectful it is hard to believe! With no record to run on for the past four years he has called on his "Chicago thug" background to launch a campaign that will probably go down in history as the most hateful.

I truly believe that his heart of hearts is not for this nation and I believe that he is a danger to this nation. There are more questions than answers regarding his background and everything about him seems "hidden." This is the man who promised four years ago to have a transparent administration. What we do know is that his closest mentors from the time he was very young have leaned away from the very principles our nation was founded upon.

While I am not particularly fond of Romney, I do believe that he is the lesser of two evils. Ohio is such an important battleground State; I only wish I could cast my vote there. But since that is impossible, my reason for writing and my hope is that each of us considers what is at stake in this upcoming election and cast a vote for change!
