Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan is scheduled to make a stop in Marietta Saturday to hold a rally on the campus of Marietta College.

The rally will be held at the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center.

Doors are set to open at 8 a.m. and the rally will begin at 10.

Campaign officials first heard of the visit late Wednesday and got confirmation Thursday, said Leslie Haas, chairwoman of the Washington County Republican Party.

"I've seen Mitt Romney already and I've seen Paul Ryan, too, and I absolutely adore this man," she said. "We're very excited."

Tickets are free and became available Thursday at the local Republican headquarters, 119 Greene St., Marietta, and are expected to be available again today after 9 a.m.

They are also available online at MittRomney.com/ohio and those who have the Romney/Ryan app can RSVP through the app and receive a ticket via email.

Capacity at Dyson Baudo is around 2,600 people, said Tom Perry, director of college relations at Marietta College.

Haas said she expects to fill the space.

"We did when Sarah Palin was here," she said. "And I think there's even more excitement this time around. I think we'll be at capacity."

Perry said it's exciting for the college and Marietta to be chosen as a campaign stop.

"This is a great opportunity for Marietta College to open up its doors to the community and for our students to be able to hear from a candidate," he said.

Perry said plans for parking for the event can't be announced until after members of the Secret Service visit the campus today.

For more information on the event, call the local Republican Headquarters at 374-6621.
