Sounds good when Romney claims he won't raise taxes and he'll slash federal spending by reducing food stamps, Medicare, Medicaid, and other health programs, social security, unemployment benefits, public broadcasting, etc., in addition to eliminating Planned Parenthood. Oh, and at the same time he says he'll remove regulations that protect workers and the environment while cutting the taxes of the rich and big corporations because he "knows" that will create jobs. After all, the health and safety of citizens and the condition of the planet don't really matter or impact the economy. He also proposes to boost defense spending with the "saved money" and that's what's really important to us, isn't it?
But then folks, where do you think the funds will come from to make up for those services we need or depend on? Well, my guess is that state and local governments will have to bear the burden.Guess what, that's us! How will it have to be done? Well, allocations to libraries, schools, fire and police departments, nursing homes, highways, etc., could be drastically cut. Or, we could save by not salting streets in the winter, or sucking up leaves, or cleaning up debris after storms and requiring each homeowner to take care of his own property. Or, of course we could look for new sources of recenue such as taxing groceries or use of city parks, etc.
And what about the jobs of people who work in the service areas he promised to do away with or downsize? Or what about the impact on the businesses that support these agencies with their products? Maybe they can get the jobs he claims his plan will create or they can move out of the country and work at one of the companies he closed in America and relocated overseas.
Or what about the elderly, or incompaciated or terminally ill. Oh well, they are no longer contributing much to the economy so why be concerned about them. And we certainly won't ever be ill or older.
Don't worry folks, even though you aren't rich, and your standard of living and quality of life will dramitcally decline, Mr. Romney will be able to wash his hands of our problems because he will have kept his commitments! And that's what we want in a president, isn't it.
