Is there a problem with facts in this country? A recent letter writer wrote, "Obama also inherited a Republican Congress who oppose everything he does while waging the most vile hate and disinformation campaign ever seen in congress." Really? When Obama took office he had a very healthy majority of Democrats in control.
The letter writer goes on to say "Despite this, Obama kept the auto industry alive," George Bush was the president that began the bailout of GM. I must further note that the "auto industry" was not in need of bailing out, a minority of auto makers took money.
We are told Mitt Romney is George Bush and all this fear mongering is put out there. If we look at actual facts we will see that we are far from better off. Federal welfare spending has grown by 32 percent over the past four years. The Bureau of Labor Statistics shows the following increases; gas 158 percent, beer 25 percent, eggs 73 percent, coffee 90 percent, peanut butter 40 percent, milk 26 percent, bread 39 percent, pasta, 44 percent, orange juice 46 percent, apples 43 percent, wine 60 percent, electric 42 percent, steak 41 percent, margarine 143 percent, tomatoes 22 percent, turkey 56 percent, bacon 39 percent, hamburger 61 percent, and cookies 39 percent. Meanwhile, real income has been dwindling.
In closing, it would be wonderful to see people get their facts straight and quit trying to re-write history.
