INDIANAPOLIS - 87 of the best marching bands in the country - including Marietta high School's Wall of Sound - are performing in the nation's pre-eminent marching band event, the Bands of America Grand National Championships, presented by Yamaha, at Lucas Oil Stadium through Saturday. Bands from 19 states have converged in Indianapolis for the championship.
Marietta High School played at 1:15 p.m. Thursday with a chance to be one of the remaining 30 bands for Saturday's finals round.
Directed by Ernest Cornell, The Wall has qualified to be a participating band since early in the marching season.

A panel of nationally known music educators and marching band experts evaluate each competing band. In Saturday's semi-finals, the top 12 scoring bands will advance to the evening finals competition, when the Grand National Champion will be named.
