Delbert Wayne Beardmore, Jr.

Delbert Wayne Beardmore, Jr., 85, of Marietta, passed away on Saturday morning (Nov. 10, 2012) at Heartland of Marietta.

He was born on Feb. 7, 1927, in Marietta, a son of the late Delbert W. Sr. and Edna Mae Covey Beardmore. Delbert was a graduate of Marietta High School, Class of 1945, served in the U. S. Army during World War II, was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church serving as financial secretary and trustee, and later attended Deucher Baptist Church. He was employed as a clerk at The U. S. Post Office for 40 years and later at The Marietta Times for 10 years.

On Oct. 17, 1965, he married Fay Mary Oliver, who preceded him in death on March 21, 1998. He is survived by two children, Kevin W. (Jackie) Beardmore of Newburgh, Ind., and Cynthia M. (Richard) Erb of Stanleyville; grandchildren, Matthew Truman Beardmore, Samuel Joseph Beardmore, Charles Joseph Beardmore, Elias Michael Beardmore, Benjamin William Erb, Audrey Elizabeth Erb, Cordell Richard Erb, Faith Lynn Erb; brother, W. David (Kay) Beardmore; two sisters, Anne Bohanes and Jayne (Kenneth) Godsey; two sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Smith and Bessie Heslop.

On Feb. 15, 1999, he married Janet King Van Fossen, who also preceded him in death on April 15, 2007. Two stepsons survive, Greg (Jenny) Van Fossen and Gary Van Fossen.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, John Bohanes and Ralph Heslop; and stepdaughter-in-law, Jan Van Fossen.

The family would like to thank the staff of Heartland and Marietta Home Health for the loving care they gave Delbert.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday (Nov. 13) at 10:30 a.m. at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Pastor Ivan Smitley officiating. Burial will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park.
