Times Past for Nov. 16

25 years ago

- The Marietta High School "Wall of Sound" had its best showing at the Band of America Grand National Championships over the weekend. The 156-member "Wall of Sound" placed 11th out of 50 bands in the competition. The band will hold a final performance Nov. 17 at the Marietta High School auditorium.

- The Great American Smokeout, a national campaign to encourage smokers to give up cigarettes for 24 hours, will kick off in Marietta on Thursday, Nov.19. Activities will be held in schools, area industries, hospitals and nursing homes.

100 years ago

- Mrs. Spack was released from the county jail. The jury failed to find any foul play, or connection to her, in her son's death.

- Deputy U.S. Marshall John McCallister has been actively pursuing leads in the robbery of the post office and railroad station at Constitution. He is heading to Cambridge and Byesville to get witnesses, who will appear before the grand jury at Columbus.
