Right Path looking for service opportunities

November 17, 2012
The Marietta Times

The Right Path for Washington County strives to keep prevention on the front burner for youth in our county. Not to coddle, enable or entitle them, we work to empower them in their decision to remain drug free and live up to their potential.

In our effort we need you, our community, to help us engage youth in community service opportunities, internships, youth groups, activities and words of support when our youth are "doing the right thing."

We have the opportunity to work with many of our school partners and their service groups, getting to see our kids in action, and we are humbled by many of their acts of kindness. We get to be part of their plans for Red Ribbon Week when they pledge to not allow drugs to get in the way of their plans and goals, when they dip ice cream for United Way, collect food for our food pantries, plan fundraisers for those in need in our community, attend youth leadership summits, chaperone their peers, plan events and rise to other worthwhile occasions. We see them mentor others as volunteers and role models and serve on committees with community leaders looking for ways to involve youth as our future leaders.

Our mother lode of service projects, Righditarod #3, the Right Path own "race against hunger" is coming March 2, 2013. For those of you unfamiliar with this event, teams of 5 choose a theme, decorate a shopping cart and embark on a path through Marietta collecting items for our food pantry partners in a wish-list scavenger-type race that promise to be "great fun for a serious cause."

The Right Path invites you to like us on Facebook or give us a call at (740) 374-6990 and find out how you can get involved. Our youth are depending on us.
