Harold E. Giffin Jr.

Harold E. Giffin Jr., 59, of Bender Road, Marietta, passed away at his residence, from Acute Myeloid Leukemia, Friday evening (Nov. 16, 2012).

He was born Tuesday, Aug. 25, 1953, in Marietta, to the late Harold E. and Edith Emogene Lemley Giffin. He was also preceded in death by an infant brother, Richard David Giffin.

He is survived by his wife, Sheila Summers Giffin, whom he married on June 18, 1988, as well as his three children, Ty Cameron Giffin, who is attending Rio Grande University, Tripp Summers Giffin, who is attending Washington State Community College, and Becca Lauren Giffin, a student a Warren High School. He is also survived by one sister, Sharon (Russ) Sheppard of Marietta; one nephew, Richard (Phyliss) Sheppard of Galloway, Ohio; and his in-laws, Bobby and Marcia Summers of Newport.

He graduated from Warren High School, Class of 1971, and Washington Technical College in 1973 with his associate degree in mechanical engineering. He worked for Dravo Corp. as a draftsman and pipefitter from 1973 to 1993 and was a proud member of Ohio Plumbers & Pipefitters Local #168 since 1981. He worked construction for various companies, especially Pioneer Pipe of Marietta. Harold was a member of the Tunnel United Methodist Church. He enjoyed playing softball on his church team and his Pipefitters teams.

He loved bowling with his friends. He also enjoyed coaching his children in youth sports, watching his boys play Warren baseball, and helping his daughter with 4-H and FFA projects.

His other enjoyments included, watching Ohio State football and the Cincinnati Reds, driving his Corvette, traveling with his family, and helping others.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday (Nov. 21, 2012) at 2 p.m. at Tunnel United Methodist Church, where friends may call for one hour prior to service with the Rev. Richard Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in Tunnel Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday (Nov. 20, 2012) from 2 to 8 p.m. at Hadley Funeral Home Reno Chapel, 1021 Pike St., Marietta.

The family of Harold Giffin would like to thank The James Cancer Center of Ohio State University Medical Center and the Marietta Home Care and Hospice for their loving care.
