Nine swimmers and four coaches from Washington County will be among nearly 1,000 people attending the state aquatics meet for the Special Olympics on Dec. 5 in Columbus.

Police officials are investigating a possible link between the bank robbery that happened Wednesday and a burned car found in Lawrence Township. The car was found not long after the robbery, had no license plates and was burned beyond recognition.

100 years ago

The Marietta, Columbus and Cleveland Railroad president invited journalists from the Register-Leader and The Times to see the vast improvements that have been made on the railroad. Numerous stops were made at points of interest and a chicken dinner was served.

William Wood was found dead at the A.T. Henderson residence in Williamstown. Wood was working on the plumbing in the house when he died of a stroke of apoplexy.
