Derby Dames appreciate public support

November 27, 2012
The Marietta Times

The First Settlement Derby Dames, of Marietta, (374-3295, 922 Front St.), would like to thank the community for its warm and supportive welcome! On Nov. 10, FSDD held its first ever home bout, Rink Rash for the Rescue, at the Washington County Fairgrounds. Rink Rash was a benefit for the Humane Society of the Ohio Valley. The community turnout was incredible. We filled nearly every seat in our venue, and are so excited that Marietta and Parkersburg are ecstatic about roller derby. With the support of our sponsors and our community, we raised $500 for the HSOV! Our sponsors include the Marietta Roller Rink, Marty's Print Shop, Putnam Chocolates, Back2Back Chiropractic, Finelines, Wicked Skatewear, the Holiday Inn, Mc Guffey Tents, Smokin' Pigs Ash BBQ, Twisted Sisters, Lure Tattoos, Washington Resource Group, Bruised Boutique and the Riverside. We'd like to thank Results Radio for giving away event tickets on air. The First Settlement Derby Dames would like to thank Heart of Appalachia Roller Derby, the Ohio Valley Roller girls, the Morgantown Roller Vixens and Athens Ohio Roller Derby for their help in making our first bout a success. The First Settlement Derby Dames is committed to empowering women and improving our community. Members volunteer their time, and all costs incurred, including for equipment and to host bouts, are paid out of pocket. The support of our sponsors and our community is truly invaluable. Thank you for helping us to continue playing our sport.
