I recently sent a letter to House Speaker John Boehner:
I think I saw a brief clip of you stating that you want to work together with the other members of the government to help all in this country. I do hope that you will be able to do this. When you took the gavel as Speaker of the House, you no longer were just the representative of a district in Ohio but you are the representative of all Americans. You represent all my family and friends in Washington, Texas, Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, Michigan, Ohio, West Virginia, Tennessee, North and South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, and New Jersey. I have very few rich friends or family. Most are working, some are having a very rough time, others are receiving SNAP and WIC, and many are on Social Security and Medicare, and a few on Medicaid.
This summer my husband and I drove to West Chester to meet you and the "Nuns on the Bus". We saw the Nuns but not you. We were there to support them as they presented the "Faithful Budget" to your staff in your absence.
What I am asking is that you raise the taxes on the very wealthy, cut the loopholes for them, cut subsidies to fossil fuels and large corporate farms, and reduce the spending for defense.
Instead of cutting Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid really work to improve them and make them work. Work to pass the Jobs Bill that was sent to the House by the president months ago.
At a time when Congress has the lowest rating ever, it is time to look to the needs of the country. It is time to be a leader and work for the people. Isn't that why you were elected? I know that the people in your district may not agree with me but you are the representative of the people, by the people and for the people of the country not just one district in Ohio.
