Times past for Dec. 7

The Marietta Times will publish a selection of children's letters to Santa in the Dec. 24 edition of the paper. Letters will be sent by the Post Office, or can be sent directly to The Times.

Workers got to work trimming the Capitol Christmas Tree. Tickets are still available to see the lighting of the 60-foot Norway spruce from Wayne National Forest.

100 years ago

Carl Mackey of Cornerville has been awarded the free trip to Washington, D.C., sponsored by the People's Banking and Trust Company. The award was for the best acre of corn grown by a boy in Washington County. He raised 96 bushels of corn.

Seven indictments were passed down from the grand jury, four were ignored. Among the seven are Roy Hayman and Frank Doyle, who allegedly tried to rob the Bell Telephone pay station at Union depot.
