James Max Phillis, 76, of McConnelsville, Ohio, died Friday (Dec. 7, 2012) at Genesis Morrison House Hospice in Zanesville. He was born April 3, 1936, in Dexter City, Ohio, son of James Phillis and Roxie L. Carrel Dixon.
He retired from Ohio Power Company, Muskingum River Plant in 1995 after 36 years of service. He graduated from Dexter City High School in 1953. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was a member of American Legion Post 389 in Beverly.
He was married April 2, 1960 to Phyllis Dimmerling Phillis who survives. He is also survived by a son, Kenneth Phillis of Beverly; a daughter, Linda Diment of Cambridge, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Elvin Dixon; and a brother, Charles Gibson.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at McCurdy Funeral Home in Beverly with the Rev. Tom O'Connor officiating. Burial will be in Beverly Cemetery with Military services at the grave.
