Mary Carson of Matamoras will travel to Washington, D.C., to sing "The Star Spangled Banner" at the Capitol Christmas Tree lighting ceremony

$15,000 in diamond watches was stolen from Ford's Jewelers on Putnam Street. The theft occurred while the store was full of Christmas shoppers.

Ellas Blevins of Parkersburg was charged with stealing a tractor-trailer truck and fleeing from Wood County, W.Va., where he was wanted for attempted murder and kidnapping.

The Marietta Roller Rink, in cooperation with the Marietta Jaycees, is offering a "Toys for Tots" skating special on Saturday Dec. 12. Skaters that donate two new or used toys will receive free admission and a free soda.

100 years ago

Petitions are being passed around Marietta for prohibiting the shipment of liquor from "wet" into the "dry" territory.

Albert Miller, who was indicted last weekend for shooting and attempting to kill his brother, Charles Miller, plead not guilty before Judge D.W. Jones.
