- 689 pairs of glasses were donated when the Vision Center and Rotary International conducted a glasses collection. The glasses will be paired with cases and shipped to Malawi in west central Africa.
- C & P Telephone Co. rerouted phone calls from Marietta and Williamstown through Parkersburg. This was needed, as phone lines were removed from the Williamstown Bridge because of its demolition scheduling.
100 years ago
- An explosion in the engine room led to a fire that razed the Phoenix Flour Mill. The mill was valued at $42,000.
- John D. McCurdy, a noted aviator, visited Marietta.
