WILLIAMSTOWN - A man accused of breaking into vehicles around Williamstown is in custoday on unrelated charges in Marietta, officials said on Thursday.
Damian Alexander Hines, 20, 271 Muskingam Drive, Marietta, is awaiting extradition from Marietta to Williamstown on multiple charges, said Williamstown Police Chief B.D. Adkins.
He was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct in Williamstown just after midnight Saturday and released on bond.
Adkins said Hines was free on bond for unrelated charges in Ohio when he was charged this weekend, Adkins said.
"It's easy for them to hop over the river and commit a crime and go back home," said Adkins.
Hines was arrested by the Marietta Police Department on Wednesday for failure to appear and processed in the Washington County Jail at 4:50 p.m., according to Washington County jail records.
At the time of his arrest for disorderly conduct, police lacked sufficient evidence to charge Hines with breaking into cars in the Painters Creek area, which occurred Saturday, Adkins said.
Williamstown police had obtained several warrants to serve on Hines for breaking and entering, but he was arrested in Marietta before they could catch him, Adkins said. According to court records, Hines has been charged in West Virginia with disorderly conduct, simple larceny and entering without breaking.
