Kingsmore's contract was approved by a 3-2 vote. As superintendent of Marietta City Schools, he faces $1 million in budget cuts and an 8.5-mill operating levy.
Marietta Memorial Hospital and CareUnit will co-sponsor a community CareCab service from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. Dec. 24 through Jan. 1. CareCab provides free taxi rides home to people who have had too much to drink.

The Marietta Senior High and Middle School choirs will perform holiday concerts Thursday, Nov. 17 at the high school auditorium. A reception will follow the concerts.
The Capitol Christmas Tree cutting will be aired on CBS Saturday, Dec. 19, at 7:30 a.m. The cutting, which occurred on Nov. 20, was filmed be Ed Johnston of the outdoors show "Agricountry."

Despite the fire at the Phoenix Mill decimating the building, two safes were pulled from the rubble and the valuable papers and books found inside were still in good condition.
A final inspection of the New Matamoras Road is set to be completed Wednesday, Dec. 18. The concrete road, which was paved with state aid, will soon be open to traffic.
