At last Saturday's Ray Webster Wrestling Tournament at Trimble High in Glouster, Waterford junior Austin Lang, the 132-pound champion, was named the tourney's Most Valuable Wrestler with a 4-0 mark which included two pins and two tech falls.
Lang flattened Trimble's John Shifflet in 3:37 in the championship bout and Meigs' Brandon Thompson in 3:29 (round 5).
He earned tech falls with a 19-4 score (round 3) against Westfall's Sierra Vulgamore and 21-2 score (round 1) versus Crooksville's Layne Garey.
Waterford junior Austin Lang, on top, works out with teammate Hunter Munjas at a practice session. Lang is one win shy of 100 career victories.
According to Wildcat mat coach Scott Zimmer, Lang is one career victory away from 100.
"Austin is very focused on getting to Columbus this year and is working hard in the wrestling room to get there," Zimmer said.
At Ray Webster, Waterford's Zeb Offenberger (120 pounds) and Hunter Munjas (170) each placed third while Blake Hiess (195) was fourth.
