There was a ban on manufacturing these guns extant from '96 to '06, when it ended. The NRA/Gun Lobby has been able to block its reinstatement since.
I encourage everyone reading this to contact your representatives/senators and demand that assault weapons be banned from manufacture permanently. Thanks for listening!
