Lawrence Bernard Krieg

Lawrence Bernard Krieg, 87, of Fly, Ohio, passed away early Wednesday morning, (Dec. 26, 2012) at the Monroe County Care Center. Bernard was born on Nov. 30, 1925, the eldest son of Lawrence and Libbie (Ludolph) Krieg.

Bernard graduated from New Matamoras High School in 1944. After graduation Bernard enlisted in the United States Army and took his basic training in Texas. After his training he went overseas to Europe in the 3rd Infantry Division. Bernard is a veteran of World War II having served 23 months of which 18 months were spent in the European Theatre of War. He received his honorable discharge June 24, 1946.

Upon his discharge Bernard worked for the Trail Run Telephone Company until the company was sold in 1957. Bernard was an employee of the Ormet Corporation, Hannibal, Ohio for over 30 years before retiring in September 1983. He was a member of V.F.W. Post 9930 Duffy, Ohio. Bernard enjoyed spending time on his tractor on the family farm, making hay, tilling a large garden while he was able for his wife and raising beef cattle. His favorite joy was being able to take his grandchildren a ride through the fields on his tractor.

Bernard married the love of his life, Sarah Hamilton on Dec. 7, 1946.

Bernard is survived by his wife of 66 years, Sarah; two daughters, Sharon (Frank) Maleyrick of Cadiz and Sheila (Brian) Turner of Woodsfield; three sons, Alan (Debby) of Williamstown, Mark (Sherry) of Jacobsburg and Bruce (Vicki) of Fly, Ohio. Twelve grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren complete the family circle. Bernard is also survived by a special aunt, Gladys Krieg also of Fly and special nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Ralph.

Calling hours will be Friday (Dec. 28) from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, 100 S. Paul St. Woodsfield, Ohio with private family services on Saturday (Dec. 29) Tim Fleeman will officiate. Burial will be at the Mehrley Cemetery, Fly. Condolences may be expressed online at
