- Marietta residents can drop off old Christmas trees at Indian Acres Park, Lookout Park, Flanders Field and the playground at Sixth and Hart.
- Dorothy Peppel, Washington County treasurer, is eager to open a time capsule she found in 1956. The capsule is from the celebrants of the 1888 Marietta Centennial.

- The Phoenix Millwill open temporary offices on Jan. 1. A storage facility will be open on Front Street.
- Three committees have failed to reach a decision regarding street lights in Marietta. The options are install a plant for commercial and street lighting or install a plant for street lighting only.

- EVE Inc., Marietta's safehouse for battered women, is offering training for those interested in becoming volunteers.
- Washington County commissioners went through the budget for 1988 and came up almost $91,000 short. Commissioners noted that there were $5.3 million in requests and $5.2 million in anticipated income.

- Nancy Hollister will begin her second term as Marietta mayor Jan. 1.
- Free taxicabs will be provided to those who have had too much to drink on New Year's Eve.

- The Ohio Senate has recognized the Marietta High School Marching Band's 11th place finish at the Bands of America Grand National Championships in November.
- Sheriff's officers were talking about "blue flu" after hearing that there would be no pay raises in 1988.

- The Lowell Gun Club will host a big gun shoot on New Year's Day. 40 members are expected to attend.
- A.M. Davis of Williamstown recovered $80 he had lost on the street in Marietta. Harry Stewart of Leith, Ohio turned the money over.
