BELPRE - Visiting South Gallia was finally able to put away a game Belpre girls basketball team in the last 2:30 on a 7-0 run up to the final horn as the Rebels notched a 59-49 Tri-Valley Conference Hocking Division victory over the Golden Eagles Thursday night
Sierra Barker with 20 points, 18 coming on six treys, and Katelyn Hughes and Emily Hughes with 15 and eight points respectively tried their best to keep Belpre, now 7-5 overall and 5-5 in the TVC Hocking, in the game.
But the Golden Eagles gave up too many points inside to the Rebels, who have lost only in the nine-team TVC Hocking to conference powerhouses Eastern and Waterford.

Belpre’s Emily Hughes, left, and Claudia Hughes put a hand in the face of South Gallia’s Meaghan Caldwell to prevent a shot during their game at the Eagles Nest Thursday night. The Lady Golden Eagles lost 59-49.
South Gallia eventually outpointed Belpre 22-10 in the fourth quarter after the Eagles had closed to within 48-46 with 4:53 to play and 52-49 at 2:38 on Barker's fifth and sixth 3-balls of the night.
However, Rachel Johnson, who collected all 12 of her points in the second half, including 10 in the fourth quarter, then tallied back-to-back baskets for the Rebels and South Gallia sank three foul shots in the last 41.1 seconds for the 10-point margin of victory.
Belpre fell behind from the start and trailed 14-7 after one quarter. But Barker zeroed in from her three-point range midway through the second stanza, gunning in three treys - the second and third consecutively - to cut a seven-point gap quickly down to one, 19-18, before a Katelyn Hughes' hoop with 5.6 seconds left knotted the count 20-20 at the half.
