A man who accidentally shot a friend during a gun show at the Comfort Inn will be summonsed to Marietta Municipal Court, said Marietta Police Capt. Jeff Waite.
Randel O. Hendrickson, 49, of 28378 Torch Road, Coolville, has been charged with discharging a firearm within the corporate limits of Marietta, a fourth-degree misdemeanor, said Waite.
The charge stems from a Jan. 6 incident where Hendrickson accidentally discharged his firearm while attempting to unholster it during the gun show.
The shot hit William Shawver, 46, of 418 Avery St., Parkersburg, in the right ankle. Shawver was treated at Marietta Memorial Hospital and released after several days, said Waite.
The illegal discharge of a firearm will be the only charge stemming from the event, said Waite.
"The victim was very adamant that it was his best friend and he didn't want him charged with anything," he said.
Hendrickson could face a maximum penalty of 30 days in jail and a $250 fine.
